Special Programs at Notre Dame

All classes at Notre Dame are college preparatory. Course levels are assigned based on content, level of difficulty, the nature of assignments and projects, as well as pace of instruction. Based on academic performance, students at Notre Dame will have several opportunities to challenge themselves with higher level courses through the Moreau Honors Program, Advanced Placement Courses, College Credit Courses, the Virtual High School, and the UCONN Early College Experience. Descrptions and links to these programs can be found below.

MOREAU HONORS PROGRAM
The Moreau Honors Program is an interdisciplinary classroom that integrates English, World Cultures, and Old Testament during the Freshman Year, and English and Christ and the Sacraments courses during the Sophomore year. This 2-year program combines disciplines, as well as teachers, with long-term projects, analytical thinking, critical reading, research techniques, and class interaction.

ADVANCED PLACEMENT (AP) COURSES
Juniors and Seniors who excel in Advanced Placement courses and perform well on the National AP Exam may receive college credit in that subject area at the college or university they eventually attend. Currently, Notre Dame offers the following AP courses: Calculus, English Composition and Literature, French, Government and Politics, Italian, Spanish, U.S. History, Physics, and Studio Art.

COLLEGE CREDIT COURSES
Juniors and Seniors have the opportunity to take courses at Albertus Magnus College, University of New Haven, Southern Connecticut State University, and Yale University for college credit. Courses are available and offered in all academic areas. Courses offered during the school day are subject to approval by the Assistant Principal.

VIRTUAL HIGH SCHOOL
Notre Dame students are able to take online courses through a partnership with the Virtual High School. This provides students with the opportunity to take standards-based, student-centered online courses. Currently, VHS offers more than 200 courses that extend the student beyond Notre Dame's course catalog. For more information about the Virtual High School please visit their website, www.govhs.org.

UCONN EARLY COLLEGE EXPERIENCE (ECE)
Through a partnership with the University of Connecticut, students can take UCONN courses at Notre Dame taught by UCONN certified staff. This program also grants students access to all UCONN resources and facilities. Through this program students can earn credits toward a UCONN degree, or in some cases, earn credit that may be transferred to other colleges or universities they choose to attend. Currently, Notre Dame offers UCONN ECE courses in English, Mathematics, Social Studies, and the Foreign Languages. For more information, please visit the UCONN ECE website, www.ece.uconn.edu.
