What is Notre Dame's Electronic Portfolio?

The purpose of the electronic portfolio is to showcase the work you completed during your four years at Notre Dame for you, your parents, teachers, perspective colleges, or even a potential employer. You will create a unique, web-based digital document that will contain examples of your work that demonstrate your understanding of various subject matter. The purpose of each submitted assignment or project is to prove you successfully satisfied each stated outcome Notre Dame has established in order to graduate.

The ultimate goal is to illustrate your growth over time by demonstrating an understanding of your own work, as well as applying knowledge to a particular situation, problem, exercise, or activity from class.

What Needs to be Submitted to the Electronic Portfolio?

Students will be responsible to submit the following materials to their Electronic Portfolio:

  • Completed, graded artifact - any significant assignment given in any particular class. You should avoid submitting tests, quizzes, or routine homework. Research papers and projects, long-term assignments, essays, artwork, photographs, multimedia clips, or web sites are all acceptable. Each year, a writing sample (essay, research paper, etc.) is a required artifact.

  • Complete and thorough reflection to accompany each artifact - a reflection template can be downloaded from this page, ND's "Class Resources" folder, or ND's Edline site. The template is a Microsoft Word document that may be saved to your computer or a "flash" drive.

  • A resume - Freshman year students will begin to organize an activities list containing anything they have taken part in, as well as any awards or accomplishments they may have received. There is no standard format for this document. As students progress this will become a resume which will be edited and built until it is completed senior year.

  • Service Projects - Students should submit their service project reflection assignment each year.

In order to graduate each student will have completed:

  • At Least 24 Artifacts and corresponding reflections
  • At least 4 Service Reflection Projects (1 from each year)
  • A completed Resume
  • A working Web Page to showcase all of the artifacts

How Will My Portfolio Be Graded?

Each term, the contents of the portfolio will be graded on a PASS or INCOMPLETE basis. Your folders will be checked for the appropriate contents. Any student with an incomplete portfolio will be required to serve academic detentions until there is satisfactory completion. NO NUMERICAL GRADE WILL BE GIVEN UNTIL SENIOR YEAR.

At the conclusion of your senior year your portfolio will be presented to and evaluated by a faculty committee who will score your work based on the provided rubric. A PASSING GRADE OF 100 POINTS IS REQUIRED FOR GRADUATION.
