Distinction in Scholarship: Valedictorian & Salutatorian

WEST HAVEN, CT – Notre Dame High School of West Haven President Robert F. Curis is pleased to announce the Valedictorian and Salutatorian of the Class of 2026. This year’s top academic honors were awarded to a remarkable pair of brothers: Alberto S. Torres Quiñones was named Valedictorian, and his twin brother, Steven A. Torres Quiñones, was named Salutatorian. Born in Puerto Rico, the brothers now reside in Hamden.

Both Alberto and Steven are IB Diploma Candidate students in Notre Dame’s rigorous International Baccalaureate program and are members of the National Honor Society, Mu Alpha Theta Math Honor Society, Italian Honor Society, and National English Honor Society.

The brothers’ success extended beyond the classroom into athletics and extracurricular leadership. Alberto distinguished himself as a member and a captain of the Cross Country, Indoor Track, and Outdoor Track teams, while Steven served as a captain of the tennis team. Steven also served as Treasurer of the Student Government Association and was a four-year member of the organization.

Both students dedicated four years to Notre Dame Theater, contributing both onstage and behind the scenes. Steven starred in this fall’s production of Curtains, while Alberto served as Stage Manager. Steven additionally held leadership roles in the Latino Student Union, Model UN, Quiz Bowl, and served as Editor-in-Chief of the Literary Magazine, as well as a Campus Ministry intern. He also worked closely with Notre Dame’s Admissions Department, helping to welcome and guide prospective students and families throughout his high school career. Alberto was likewise actively involved and held leadership roles in the Latino Student Union, art editor of the Literary Magazine, Model UN, Quiz Bowl, and several other student organizations. Together, they served as Peer Counselors and role models to the Notre Dame community.

At graduation, Steven was also honored with the prestigious “Man of the Year” award, selected by the faculty as the senior who made the greatest impact on the Notre Dame community during his senior year.

Following graduation, both Steven and Alberto will continue their education at Boston University. Alberto plans to pursue studies in Biology and Neurobiology on the pre-medical track, while Steven will study Molecular and Cell Biology, also on the pre-medical track.
