Spring Athletics: A Season of Growth and Achievement

What an incredible night celebrating the Notre Dame athletic community at Anthony’s Ocean View for the annual Varsity Banquet. The evening brought together student-athletes, coaches, and families to honor the dedication, perseverance, and pride that define Knights athletics.

The banquet served as both a celebration and a reflection of an outstanding year across all varsity programs. From breakthrough performances to championship-level moments and record-setting achievements, Notre Dame's athletics continues this success even throughout the 2026 spring season. Our athletes have showcased the strength and unity of Notre Dame athletics at every level.

As the community looks back on the accomplishments already secured, excitement continues to build as several teams push deeper into postseason competition and others close out remarkable seasons for this spring.

On the softball field, one of the most unforgettable moments of the year came when Lorelei Schunmann delivered a walk-off 3-run home run to cap a dramatic come-from-behind victory for Stratford/NDWH against Joel Barlow—an instant highlight that captured the resilience and fight of the program.

Meanwhile, ND's lacrosse continues its postseason run, with the Knights advancing to the SCC Semifinals on May 26 at home at 4:00 PM. The team awaits the winner of Branford vs. Guilford, carrying strong momentum into a pivotal matchup on their home field.

On the water, crew delivered a standout day of racing. The varsity squad earned first place against Middletown High School and Greenwich Country Day School with a time of 4:54.16. The JV boat also turned in a strong performance, finishing third in a tightly contested race—highlighting the depth and competitiveness of the program.

On the links, boys golf put together an impressive showing at the CIAC Boys Spring Classic at Grassy Hill Country Club, finishing second out of 14 teams. Individually, Brody Burns led the charge with a tie for third place after shooting a 38, while Connor Duarte’s 39 helped anchor a strong overall team performance.

On the tennis courts, Michael Lorenzetti continues to earn national recognition, currently ranked #12 in the country in USTA Boys 18U. His victories over multiple top-10 ranked opponents—including players ranked #3, #5, and #6—underscore his place among the nation’s elite and reflect the high level of competition he brings to every match.

On the track, history was made as the sprint medley relay team set a new school record at the O’Grady Relays, finishing in 3:38.47 to take third place. With strong splits across all legs—Tristan Robinson, Tahir Bennett, Raniel Matheney, and Dan Carone—the performance marks another milestone in a season defined by progress and potential.

On the baseball diamond, the Knights delivered a dominant 11–0 road win over SCC opponent Foran in five innings for their last game, highlighted by a historic performance from Finn, who threw a perfect game over 5 innings with 0 hits, 0 walks, and 0 runs allowed. He also contributed offensively, going 2-for-3 with a triple, 3 RBI, 2 runs scored, and a stolen base. The Knights’ offense stayed hot throughout the lineup, with Saulino going 3-for-4 with a double, 3 RBI, and 2 runs scored, Marczak finishing 3-for-4 with an RBI and 2 runs scored, Matt Suchy adding 2-for-4 with two doubles, 1 RBI, and 2 runs scored, and Talin Patel going 2-for-2 with a walk, 2 RBI, 1 run scored, and a stolen base—all on his birthday.

As the spring season continues, each program adds to a larger story of commitment, growth, and excellence. The Varsity Banquet offered a moment to pause and celebrate that journey, but the momentum is far from over. With postseason play underway and records still falling, Knights athletics continue to rise together—strong, unified, and just getting started.
