Fine Arts

Studies show that in an all-male educational setting, young men are more likely to engage in a creative outlet – be it art, drama, music. At Notre Dame, the arts are a vital part of the curriculum all four years. Credit-bearing course options include studio art I, II, & III (A.P. also available), black and white photography, advanced photography, music appreciation, music theory, concert chorus, string ensemble, introduction to guitar, guitar ensemble, introduction to band, intermediate band, concert band, and more.

In the last 30 years, Notre Dame students have captured All-State Musician honors 36 times for their outstanding performances. The range instruments represented by N.D. All-State musicians is extraordinary: flute, oboe, clarinet, bassoon, trumpet, french horn, tuba, percussion, jazz saxophone, and violin. Included in this distinguished group are ten alumni of our well-regarded chorus.

The following performance groups earn credit for participating, and their collective talent adds to the spirit of Notre Dame:
  • Concert Chorus
  • Concert Band
  • String Ensemble
  • Guitar Ensemble
To broaden the creative outlets available to all our students, Notre Dame also offers an array of arts-related co-curricular activities including student art exhibits, concerts, and annual stage plays.

There are 15 Jazz Bands in our class. The top 3 are announced as award winners and there is also an Honorable Mention. Students started work on this Music in October. Our Jazz Band has shown significant improvement in preparing for this Festival.
