Brother George Schmitz, CSC, '65, returned to Notre Dame in 2014. He was assigned to ND in 1970 as a member of the Foreign Language Department (Spanish). From 1974 to 1977 he served as Dean of Students. In 1977, Brother George was assigned to the Congregation of Holy Cross' District of Chile where he taught English at Colegio Andacollo in Santiago. In 1981 he assumed the duties of Principal in which role he served until 1984. During his 30-year hiatus from ND, he served as Provincial Superior of the Eastern Province of Holy Cross Brothers and as a member of the General Administration of the Congregation. From 2007 to 2014, we was the Director of the McGowan Hispanic Outreach Program at King's College, Wilkes Barre, PA. A fun fact about Brother George is that he is an avid reader and is an outdoors person! His favorite places to hike and some of his favorite spots are West Haven beaches. |
