Notre Dame High School is seeking an enthusiastic teaching professional with excellent subject knowledge to join our Mathematics faculty. Our educators employ 21st Century Skills, project-based learning, and student-centered strategies and pedagogy in the classroom.  We seek motivated individuals with a keen interest in encouraging and inspiring students to love learning and excel in the mathematics subject areas.

Position Summary:

To be a successful teacher in this position, the candidate must have a strong background in teaching mathematics, have an understanding of how students learn, and be able to create effective assessments and provide actionable feedback. Additionally, the teacher should create a supportive educational environment that fosters relationships with students, parents, and staff members. Candidates must also possess a professional growth mindset, focusing on improving classroom practice. The candidate must also be able to work collectively on school and departmental improvement goals and be willing to provide coverage time during the school day for various non-teaching duties.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Implement strong knowledge of high school mathematics curriculum from Algebra 1 through  Calculus 
  • Use student-centered strategies and incorporate equitable inquiry based learning activities to teach content
  • Teach individuals and groups 21st century skills and to engage students in STEAM experiences
  • Collaborate with teachers to support and create curriculum and projects suitable for high school students to facilitate implementation of science, math, and technology standards
  • Work with students and teachers in interdisciplinary/cross curricular projects 
  • Keep abreast of relevant pedagogy, strategies, and technologies and continually engage in learning and exploration
  • Serve as a  “Minds and Hearts” Teacher advisor
  • Coordinate and supervise clubs or after-school programs
  • Provide support of project documentation through the use of Chromebooks (video, photos, blogs, lab notebooks) 
  • Confident in the use of instructional technology platforms such as Google Suite products- Classroom, Docs, Sheets, Calendar, Email, Chromebooks, etc.
  • Provide a representative number of assessments and grades so that students and their families have an understanding of their performance 
  • Contact parents of underperforming students or where there is concern for their learning
  • Meet professional obligations through efficient work habits such as meeting deadlines, honoring schedules, and complying with departmental and administrative protocols
  • Effectively use technology to enhance student learning, and be aware of the new challenges posed by its use
  • Collaborate with the Academic Center and be aware of students with 504s and IEPs, ensuring their accommodations are met.
  • Collaborate with members of the department on improvement goals, curriculum mapping, and evaluation thereof, and on all duties assigned by the  department chair
  • Perform other duties, such as class coverages, attend department and faculty meetings
  • Teach an experiential learning course lasting one week
  • Arrive at school, classes, and school events on time and with a professional demeanor
  • Attend school events such as graduation, parent conferences, and open houses organized by the Office of Admissions
  • Represent the school well both internally and externally as well as attend school-sponsored events such as plays, athletic events, and other extracurricular activities.

Requirements

Qualifications:

  • Must have at least an undergraduate college degree in the field from an accredited institution. Advanced degree is preferable but not required
  • 2-5 years of teaching experience is preferred
