Biography:
Mr. Valencia was born in Bogota, Colombia, and grew up in Hartford, CT, until his middle school years, when his family relocated to Miami. He attended the University of Miami for both his BA and MA degrees in History and began teaching at the age of 28.

Previously serving the Gulliver Schools in Miami, Florida, Mr. Valencia most recent title was the Dean of Academics and Curriculum for the Upper School and the Director of Studies for the Entire School. He was given the opportunity to begin an IB program in his third year of teaching and has since worked with teachers and other administrators on creating effective learning environments for students. He is married to Yolanda Valencia, EdD, and has three children, Sophie, Kelsey, and Joshua. Mr. Valencia enjoys reading, learning, and traveling. What he loves most of all is working with teachers and students on making learning meaningful. A fun fact about Mr. Valencia is that when he moved to Miami with his family, he ended up living there for 45 years!
