brian a. miller '83

Growing up in the shadow of New Haven’s East Rock, Brian Miller ’83 climbed the Giant Steps to the summit to obtain a panoramic view of New Haven. Then, in his 33-year international career, Miller found a panoramic view that spanned the world with a focus on climate change, access to affordable clean energy and water, and related economic and social development in over 35 countries on six continents, where he interacted with many governments and communities, and served on over 25 boards and civic organizations.

Miller was first an energy and litigation attorney with Chadbourne & Parke, a global law firm.  After Chadbourne, he served as EVP and Chief Legal Officer (CLO) for four separate global corporations with responsibilities ranging far outside the standard CLO role, including strategic growth, government affairs, cyber-security, stakeholder engagement, ethics, audit, business development, and ESG. He presently continues his focus on global sustainability as EVP and CLO for Iv3 Aqua.

Miller received his BA in history and economics from Boston College and JD from UConn Law.  At UConn, he served on the International Law Journal and received the Constitutional Law and Environmental Law awards.  During his career, he has been recognized for leadership and innovation by, among others, the New York Stock Exchange as “Distinguished General Counsel”, National Law Journal as a legal profession “Visionary”, National Association Corporate Counsel as “Outstanding Chief Legal Officer”, the Corporate Attorney Association as “Governance Professional of the Year”, and First Chair Chicago as “Top General Counsel”.  He also has been recognized for his dedication and commitment to public service, including recognition by the Fairfax County Virginia government as a “Champion of Character” for leadership in youth sports and community activities.

Miller joined the ND Board in 2018.  He and his wife Mary(SHA ’82) reside in Virginia, although Connecticut remains their favorite place to spend time with the Miller and Danehy families, and their ND, SHA and many other friends. They are proud parents of Paul, Rosalie, and Brian.  Miller is grateful to be the son of Bill and Ginger, and brother of  William '79, Michael ’81, and Kathleen SHA ’85.
