Notre Dame is thrilled to name Everson Maciel as Head Coach of Boys Soccer. Coach Maciel brings extraordinary depth of experience, knowledge, and passion for the game to the Green Knights.
A native of Londrina, Brazil, he began his career with Londrina Esporte Clube before coming to the United States to play at Quinnipiac University. He left as one of the best players in program history — tied for second all-time in goals with 31, Northeast Conference Player of the Year, Quinnipiac Male Athlete of the Year, and a two-time All-NEC First Team selection.
His playing career took him far beyond the collegiate level. In 2003 he joined Negeri Sembilan in Malaysia, helping the club capture the FA Cup with 12 goals and 14 assists. He returned to the U.S. in 2004 to sign with the Western Mass Pioneers, where he helped lead the club to its first regular-season championship and a title-game appearance. Over four consecutive seasons he earned USL Second Division All-League honors — one of only six players in league history to be recognized four times — and in 2010 was ranked No. 9 on the USL Second Division's Top 15 Players of the Decade.
Off the field, Coach Maciel has devoted himself to developing young players and growing the game locally. He founded Everson Soccer Academy in 2005, which has since trained more than 12,000 athletes ages 2½ to 18 across the New Haven area. He also owns Ginga FC, a premier youth club, and previously served as Head Girls Soccer Coach at Sacred Heart Academy. He continues to compete at the highest level in futsal with Safira FC and represented the United States National Futsal Team at the 2021 CONCACAF Futsal Championship.
From Brazil to Quinnipiac, the pros in Malaysia and the U.S., youth development, and international futsal — Coach Maciel has spent his life in this game. We're excited to bring that experience to Notre Dame, and even more excited to welcome a coach who has dedicated his career to helping young athletes learn, grow, compete, and love the game.
