Joe DeCaprio was named Notre Dame’s Head Football Coach on December 11, 2016, succeeding legendary coach Tom Marcucci ’66 following his retirement after the 2016 season.
Driven by his passion for teaching and mentoring young people, DeCaprio returned to school to earn his teaching certification and joined the Notre Dame faculty, where he teaches business courses. His coaching journey began as a volunteer assistant before steadily advancing through the program's ranks. As Offensive Coordinator, he helped lead Notre Dame’s offense to five playoff appearances in eight seasons.
Today, Coach DeCaprio continues to build on Notre Dame’s proud football tradition while developing student-athletes both on and off the field.
2026 CAPTAINS
Being named a Notre Dame Football Captain is one of the highest honors a student-athlete can earn. Captains are chosen by their teammates and coaches to lead by example through their work ethic, character, accountability, and commitment to the team. They represent the values and traditions of Notre Dame Football both on and off the field, serving as leaders who inspire those around them and help set the standard for future generations of Green Knights.
